Details
A beautifully preserved antique copy of Ernest Maltravers and its sequel, Alice, by English novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Originally published in the 19th century, the two Gothic novels are presented together here in a handsome navy blue cloth binding by Belford, Clarke & Co.
Inside is one of my favorite details: a handwritten inscription dated 1896, giving this book a known place in someone’s life more than a century ago.
The deep blue binding and wonderfully aged pages make it as beautiful displayed on a bookshelf or tucked into a collected vignette as it is interesting as a piece of literary history.
The title page has separated from the binding at the spine; however, the book itself remains tightly bound. It otherwise presents beautifully for its considerable age. Please review all photographs for condition.
