Flowers from the Garden

The first weeks of September are full of celebratory meals. This week’s flowers felt especially fitting. Strawflowers, cosmos, zinnias and ammi—all gathered from our own garden and carried inside for the table. There is something wonderfully full circle about growing the flowers that eventually become part of the life happening around them. Seeds planted months ago became flowers gathered for birthday dinners, candles lit, plates passed and another year marked together. Perhaps that is part of the pleasure of growing anything at all. Eventually, what we tend becomes part of the way we live.
