Flowers from the Garden

Some things are simply non-negotiable. Take, for instance, a small piece of vintage pottery with a delightfully brown-speckled body topped with abstract indigo brushstrokes. There was never really a question of selling it. It was mine the moment I found it. The same principle applies to the garden. There will always be room for the flowers that refuse to behave themselves: whimsical blooms like gomphrena and airy stems of cosmos, with ammi wandering through and around them. The sort of flowers that look best gathered by the handful rather than arranged too carefully. Perhaps that is why they belong so naturally in this little pot. Neither the vessel nor the flowers are particularly interested in being perfect. They are simply delightful. And some things are worth keeping for no better reason than that.
