Details

A striking mid-19th century polychrome ironstone pitcher, attributed to Francis Morley & Co. of Shelton, Staffordshire, England, and dating to approximately 1845–1858.

The pitcher is beautifully decorated with an exuberant floral motif in shades of blue, coral, rust and green against a creamy ironstone ground—a wonderful example of the richly decorated English wares of the period. Its graceful shape and wonderfully ornate handle make it equally beautiful displayed on its own or filled generously with garden flowers.

Francis Morley & Co. operated at the Broad Street Works in Shelton during the mid-19th century and was particularly known for decorated ironstone and earthenware. The dealer from whom this piece was acquired identified the pattern as Sydenham Blue Rose; we have been unable to independently confirm the exact pattern attribution and offer it as such.

Measures: 7 1/2” high

Condition: Excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks.
