Pair of Antique Books
We simply adore this pair of well worn antique books. They are in poor shape and along the way someone lovingly tied them with twine to hold them together and we actually love the charm this brings. We did some peeking and to our surprise, the smaller book is actually a copy of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and the other is a volume of Peterson's Magazine from 1883. This bound volume would contain all 12 issues of Peterson's from that year.
Peterson's was founded in 1842 as The Lady's World of Fashion by the partners of The Saturday Evening Post. The name was changed to Peterson's in 1848 and became one of the most popular periodicals for women in the United States. It was sold in 1898 and ceased printing in this form.
These books add so much visual interest to a bookshelf and are also sweet little slices of history.
