Manufactured by Lord Nelson Pottery which was the trade name used by Elijah Cotton who was well known for making jugs and was one of the "Stoke on Trent potters". The trademark appeared in the late 40's and 50's and the crown was added to the marking in 1956. Lord Nelson Pottery was produced until 1981. There are markings on some of the under sides 12-71 and 1-72 which may be indicative of month/year they were manufactured.

Autumn in the Country

It was cold and crisp outside; the kind of fall evening where your heaviest knit sweater is barely warm enough in the shade but just right in the hazy glow of the fading sun. Woolen blankets stood at the ready to provide additional warmth and candles were lit so that the hazy glow would remain once the sun had set.
