I feel so fortunate to have inherited all the oil paintings of my ancestors on my paternal side of the family. Born and raised in Maryville, TN; this is my great grandmother Laura who was known to all of us as Moonie. She saved the receipt for this oil painting which I still have ~ it was painted in Knoxville in 1918 by a C. Mortimer. During the Depression, my great grandfather found work with Nestle in New York and they left Tennessee to live just outside of the Big Apple in Ridgwood, NJ. Moonie passed away at 97 the same year I was born. My father has always told me we are very alike and would have been quite kindred spirits. He said she always missed Tennessee immensely and would have loved to move back to her home state. I like to think she is happy that in a sense; I brought her back home again. Oh, and that magnificent tiny taper candelabra is now available in the shop. The evening commute. *I’m still in the throes of my organizational overhaul over here ~ I have another shelving unit arriving today and I’m hoping this whole project is put to bed by the weekend. 🙄 Also, trying to reorganize the existing inventory actually puts a little damper on the stacks and stacks of newest finds because there.is.so.much.stuff. and I’m overwhelmed because how am I fitting it all? First off, thank you all for the love on yesterday’s post. ❤️ It’s a bit nerve wracking to put yourself out there for the world to see when you are WAY more comfortable being behind the camera. But I know I love learning more about the humans behind the accounts I follow here so I felt it was time to let you know a little more about me. In other news, I am on day 3 of reorganizing shop inventory and we will not even discuss things like when I have last showered or even changed clothes. 😷I opened a can of you ~ know ~ what with this but it’s been long overdue and a 3 day weekend is ideal for tackling such a project. If, in fact, 3 days ends up being long enough to get it done. Thinking of doing a little video tour in stories for you guys so stay tuned. Oh, and this photo? Happy Sunday friends! There are so many new faces around here and it has been almost a year since I properly introduced myself. I thought it was time to share again a little bit about the one woman show that is Feast Vintage. My name is Eleanor and I have been passionate about vintage, antiques and other peoples no longer loved goods since I was a kid and would ride my bike on weekends to all the garage sales in the neighborhood I grew up in. I live with my husband and kids on an 8.5 acre farm in a charming rural village called Leiper’s Fork ~ about 30 miles south of Nashville. We didn’t grow up on farms or even in Tennessee ~ we actually grew up at the beach on the Jersey Shore. About 7-8 years ago we started thinking differently about life and where our food comes from and started growing as much of our own food as we could on our little suburban lot. Which turns out is surprisingly a lot! But we kept dreaming bigger... what if we could have fresh eggs every day and actually produce almost ALL of our own food? It seemed distant, unreachable and frustrating as we were caught in the hamster wheel of corporate jobs and life so embedded in our home town that we literally had no clue how would we ever be able to manifest our dreams. But in 2015 a job opened up in the Nashville area with the company I worked for and suddenly the life we so desperately wanted that seemed impossible was finally in reach. We decided now or never, packed up our lives and headed to TN. I share this back story because my passion for cooking and growing our own food manifested itself in my vintage shop. I started Feast as a side hustle in 2013 selling all sorts of housewares but I soon realized the items I loved finding and selling the most were all related to gathering people around the table. There is so much joy in feeding the ones we love and the moments we spend at the table often times become some of our favorite memories. Nothing makes me happier than hearing about how these gorgeous treasures have dressed your tables, bring back memories of loved ones and add beauty to your lives. Grateful for you following me on this adventure. xx
It feels like winter has officially arrived on the farm which is kind of ironic because our first seedlings have just been started. After all the 70 degree days we’ve recently had, it actually felt about right.
