It snowed most of the day yesterday but in true Tennessee fashion, nothing really stuck to the ground and the only proof that it even happened is that my deck is coated in about 1/2” of pristine white stuff. Gonna be honest, I love the prettiness of a snowfall but I really appreciate how fast it melts away so there is no mess left behind. What I don’t appreciate is how cold it is again because after some days touching into the high 60’s it kind of feels like a cruel joke seeing the thermometer drop to the 20’s. The only plus side is that cold = cozy so candlelight dinners will definitely be on this weekend’s agenda. Let’s talk about cake, shall we? It is, after all, the middle of the week and we could all probably use a little something sweet to carry us through the next couple of days. So... if you are planning to bake this weekend THIS is the cake you should bake. And if you weren’t planning on baking this weekend you might want to rethink that decision because THIS cake is amazing. The recipe is from @odettewilliams book Simple Cake. It’s the Cinnamon Spice Cake and besides being simple (as claimed) it contains no butter or granulated sugar and yet still managed to be completely devoured in just over 24 hours. I opted to top it with her cinnamon sugar variation because when I read “donut like crunch” I knew my family would fall in love. Admittedly, I did too. ❤️ P.S. First you find that amazing floral tin, then you realize you bought that cookbook in NYC with the pretty cover that would look perfect with it. Then you remember you have pink stem wine glasses from France and that the pink would be the perfect compliment to both the book and the tin, so you grab them too. While at it, out of the corner of your eye you spot that engraved brass pitcher you found over the weekend and every shelf needs a pop of shiny something doesn’t it? So you grab that too. Next thing you know you are pulling out this piece and pulling out that piece and it all comes together and makes for some really pretty kitchen shelves doesn’t it?
